Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is responsible for a large proportion ofÌýperinatal mortality worldwide. There is currently no treatment that can improveÌýfetal growth in utero, and only childbirth, usually prematurely, allowsÌýinfant survival. The management of infants with very low birth weightÌýis aÌýmajor challenge in medical, ethical and economic terms. Substantial advances inÌýneonatology are enabling the intensive care of increasingly preterm infantsÌý(from 5.5 months of gestation, 500 grams), without really ensuring a neurologicÌýand respiratory outcome free of long-termÌýhandicap. These small for gestationalÌýage infants remain in a hospital setting until they attain a weight ofÌýapproximately 2500 g. The cost of their care is considerable. FGR is thereforeÌýone of the main Grand Challenges in perinatal medicine.Ìý

Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ and Paris Descartes University haveÌýa great expertise andÌýinnovative research projects in the field of FGR.ÌýTo promote collaborations aÌýseminar on Fetal Growth Restriction will be organized in May 2017 in London, in partnership with the French Embassy in London,Ìýgathering 70 people (clinicians and scientists)Ìýfrom the two university departmentsÌýand their affiliated hospitals.ÌýÌýAt theÌýend of the meeting theÌýmodalities for a clinical and a scientific collaborationÌýwill be decided. To reinforce the partnership an exchange program ofÌýundergraduate medical students will also be organized. This project has been founded by Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Global Engagement Fund and by Paris-descartes University.
