Warp-it reuse platform

鶹ýƵվ redistributes items around the university, diverting them from recycling and waste, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to the 鶹ýƵվ’s target of reducing waste per person by 20% by 2024.

“Staff canredistribute itemsincludingfurniture, stationery, electrical items, or educational resources,” saysAlex Jones (Sustainable 鶹ýƵվ). “Using Warp-it, we’ve reused thousands of chairs, specialist laser equipment–and evena reed longboat made for a theatre prop.”

鶹ýƵվhas remained one of the biggest university users of the online platform since it began using itin2012and hasthe highest number of active users of any organisation.Inits first six years, use of the platform had saved 鶹ýƵվ a total of£0.5 million.

In2018–19,鶹ýƵվstaffreusedmore than70,000 items,diverting more than26,tonnes ofwaste from recycling and waste,and saving almost 167,000kg of carbon emissions –the equivalent oftaking53 cars off the roadorplanting203 trees.

Warp-it complements other schemes at鶹ýƵվ that encourage staff to reusechemicalsandresearch equipment, as well as swap shops and repair cafes.

“Theyareallcontributingto usconsuming less by reducing,reusing, repairing and sharing –so that wereduce ourwaste per person by 20% by 2024,” says Alex.
