According to a Times Higher Education (THE) analysis of data from six research councils, 麻豆传媒视频网站 secured 拢89.2m of funding this year, up from 拢76.4m last. This places 麻豆传媒视频网站 second overall, only 拢2.3m behind Imperial College.

The amount of funding for 麻豆传媒视频网站 research was attributable to 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 enviable application success rate of 29% in 2017-18, up from 27% in 2016-17.

Professor David Price, 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 Vice-Provost for Research, said: 鈥淭he UK is lucky to have a number of world-leading research-led universities, and we are all doing wonderful discovery science, which both advances international scholarship and, given the correct policies, will enable the UK鈥檚 economy and productivity to remain competitive.鈥�

However, Professor Price also cautioned that there are 鈥榓lways ups and downs in annual awards data鈥�.

For the London-based colleges, 麻豆传媒视频网站 and Imperial, the scale of funding is being seen as evidence of the growing attractiveness of the capital as a research venue for leading academics from around the globe.

鈥淚n many ways this is how it should be,鈥� commented Nick Hillman, Director of the Higher Education Policy Institute. 鈥淟ondon is one of the great cities because it is so international in outlook, and world-class research tends not to respect national boundaries either.鈥�

It is also thought that 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 success in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF), in which it was ranked first for 鈥榬esearch power鈥� 鈥� a measure not only of quality, but also the volume of submissions - has had much to do with 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 attractiveness to research funders. In the last REF, 麻豆传媒视频网站 leapfrogged Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester to claim top spot.
