Alpha-1 AwarenessÌýis a charity formed to provide information and support to sufferers of α1-antitrypsin deficiency. They provideÌýsupport forÌýAlpha-1 patients and their carers, improve the understanding of Alpha-1Ìýfor both patients and medical professionalsÌýand fund vitalÌýresearch into this disease.
Professor Lomas and his team at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾, have receivedÌýgenerous donations ofÌý£45,000Ìýover the last 3 years from Alpha-1 Awareness, which has enabled our groupÌýto advance understandingÌýof the polymer formation thatÌýunderlies α1-antitrypsinÌý deficiency.
On Monday 3rd February 2020, Alan and Emma Wooler of Alpha-1 Awareness cameÌýto Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ (University College London) to present Professor David Lomas with a cheque for £10,000 to go towards his research for a cure for Alpha-1.

α1-antitrypsinÌýclinic
An Alpha-1 clinic has been established at the Royal Free Hospital in North London. ÌýThe clinic is run by Professors , and David LomasÌý and has been designed to cover all aspects of α1-antitrypsin deficiency. Ìý It is a joint clinic run by hepatologists (liver doctors) and respiratory physicians.
The clinic also offers opportunities to take part in research studies aimed at understanding α1-antitrypsin deficiency and developing a cure ()
