Research Misconduct

Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s procedure for investigating and resolving allegations of misconduct in academic research was last updated on 1 November 2022 and can be found on the Research Governance webpage.

The Procedure closely follows the model procedure set out by the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO), with some minor adaptations to reflect Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s local circumstances and terminology.

The Procedure applies to Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ staff and students as well as all fields of research and so can be used to investigate alleged misconduct in each area of research at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾. It sets out clearly the process by which allegations of alleged misconduct are to be investigated in a way that is fair to all parties.

The Foreword of the procedure states that all 'staff (including honorary staff) and students of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ are under a general obligation to preserve and protect the integrity and probity of research; in particular, if they have good reason to suspect any misconduct in research, they should report their suspicions' as set out in the procedure.

The interim named person for ensuring the integrity of proceedings conducted under this Procedure is the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation and Global Engagement).
