Job description

We are seeking to appoint a postgraduate teaching assistant (PGTA) on the Modern European History and Politics module of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate in the Humanities (UPCH) for 2024-5. Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates (UPC) are foundation courses for international students of high academic potential. The MEHP course provides an introduction to the cultural, social, and political history of Europe since 1789, whilst also including current affairs and on-going socio-political debates. The course covers five key topics: The Enlightenment & the French Revolution, Nations and Nationalism 1789-1919, Modern Political Thought, Democracy and Populism, and International Relations/the Cold War.Ìý

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • After-class contact time with students, including time-tabled office hours;
  • Marking students' work;
  • Giving feedback to students;
  • Supervision of research projects

Requirements for role

  • Undergraduate degree in History, Politics (or International Relations).
  • Familiarity with key concepts, perspectives, and methodologies of History and Politics.
  • Ability to clearly communicate academic content.
  • Ability to organise small-group discussions and learning activities.
  • Ability to support students learning and academic development.
  • Motivation towards gaining academic and professional experience in a university teaching role.Ìý
