Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ votes against Brexit: mock referendum on EU membership

On Thursday 12 May 2016, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ held a mock referendum in the South Cloisters for all members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ community.

Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ mock referendum on Brexit Using the same question as on the official ballot paper for the national vote on 23 June, we asked: Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?

The results were as follows:

  • 88.3% voted to remain a member of the European Union
  • 11.6% voted to leave the European Union

During the count, a slight difference in voting tendencies was noted between Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ staff and students; amongst staff, there was a slightly higher number of people in favour of Brexit, with 15.2% voting to leave the European Union. By comparison, 89.6% of students voted for the UK to remain.

With just 20 days to go until the real referendum on Britain's membership of the EU, the debate on this historic issue is really beginning to gain momentum. If you are eligible to vote, but have not yet registered to vote, remember that you need to do this before 7 June 2016 in order to take part in the referendum.
