Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾

During the first week of term Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U delivered nearly 100 Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment workshops to new students.

The workshops gave students the chance to discuss what sexual harassment is, and how they can challenge it when they see it happening. No other university in the UK has run similar anti-sexual harassment workshops before in this way or on this scale.

The workshops are part of a wider Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment initiative at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U which has been in place since 2012. This summer saw the launch of another phase of the initiative, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U's , which reflects Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U and Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s commitment to fighting sexual harassment and desire to make sure the university is a safe space for all students and staff. Since its launch the Pledge has been signed by almost 40 Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ departments.

Natalie James, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U Women's Officer said, "Sexual harassment is a significant problem on university campuses across the UK, and Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ is no different. It's great to have the university supporting and working with Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾U's Zero Tolerance campaign via our Pledge for Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Departments.

"No other UK university or SU has run anti-sexual harassment workshops on this scale for students, so it's very exciting to be involved in some genuinely groundbreaking work. Although there is much that still needs to be done at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ to combat sexual harassment, the reaction so far - from both staff and students - has been very encouraging, and I hope the campaign will continue to make good progress."
