  • This summer five Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ students spent three weeks in Shanghai as part of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ China Programme.

Rohini Sarkar (Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ History), Kylie Wong (Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Biosciences) and Lin Yang (Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Economics) departed armed with Flipcams and digital cameras to capture the highlights of their trip, which included Mandarin and calligraphy lessons, home visits and excursions to towns around Shanghai.

Anthony Grout of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ International Office said: "The Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ China Programme is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and experience China first hand through a fully funded three-week programme of cultural activities, Mandarin classes, and visits to major historical sites.

"The programme exposes students to a side of China that tourists don't get to see, and allows them to experience true Chinese hospitality from their local hosts in one of the nation's major cities.

"Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ sends a number of students abroad each year on the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ China Programme and its sister programme Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ India, who return to Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ with a real and lasting enthusiasm for the programme, a renewed international outlook, and some unforgettable memories.

"The Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ China Programme is currently accepting applications for the 2011 Easter programme. Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ China is however just one of the many study abroad opportunities available to Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ students. Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ offers the possibility of undertaking a period of study abroad at more than 250 partner institutions in over 30 countries worldwide, including 46 of the world's top 100 institutions."

Events will be held on 29 October and on 2 November about the study abroad opportunities open to students.
