Summary
This module will explore the history and trajectory of humanitarian policy and practice from the foundations of the humanitarian movement, through to recent humanitarianÌýreforms.ÌýIt will give students the background to analyse humanitarian situations, while reflecting on humanitarian policies and practices in the past and present.
Students will study the increasing complex circumstances in which humanitarian practice takes place, via a case study approach involving practitioners from the humanitarian world.ÌýUnderstanding humanitarian contexts is a core humanitarian competency.
The method of delivery
This module will primarily be delivered through subject-specific lectures, with expert guest lecturers for specific case studies, followed by seminars which will be based on real-world case studies.Ìý
