Description
This module aligns the use of strategic management accounting with the process of performance measurement and management. It sets out potential multi-dimensional planning and control approaches linked to performance measures and identifies methods of implementation. It captures the utility of a range of cost management techniques in furthering the strategy of an organisation. It seeks to develop and support the development of knowledge, understanding and skills to select and apply relevant financial techniques in supporting the strategic performance management of an organisation, and to interpret and explain the results. This includes the application of quantitative/financial techniques; the ability to interpret and explain the results of these calculations; the ability to critically evaluate the techniques; and a recognition that management accounting-related measures are context-dependent, and have to be placed in the contexts of qualitative measures, and an organisation’s strategy, culture and management style. It explores non-financial measures, quality issues, performance measurement and control approaches, activity based management, responsibility accounting and advanced planning and budgeting. It includes transfer pricing, and divisional performance evaluation.
