Description

The module will give attendees knowledge of the basics of wireless/mobile communications and the systems for mobile communications starting with the 2nd generation (2G0 to the fifth generation (5G) and looks at the future beyond 5G. We start with an introduction to the three fundamentals of mobile/cellular systems; signals, modulation and coding, the wireless channel and the cellular environment. the basics cover 40% of the course and the other 60% is dedicated for the study of the details of mobile systems, their architecture and channels (with a focus on the physical layer) and their development. We consider 2G and GSM, 3G and UMTS, 4G and LTE and 5G. We end up with a lecture on new services provided by 5G and a look at the technologies beyond 5G.
