Description

Teaching Delivery: This module is taught in 20 bi-weekly lectures and 20 bi-weekly PGTA-led seminars.

Content: The module aims to develop students' knowledge of the Latin language, starting from a level comparable to that achieved at the end of Intermediate Latin A. It aims to consolidate knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary and prepare students for higher-level studies in Latin language and literature, by reading two texts in the original classical Latin, one in poetry and the other in prose.Ìý

Skills:ÌýStudents will be trained in translating Latin texts into English and English sentences into Latin, learning vocabulary andÌýconsolidating their knowledge ofÌýLatin grammar and syntax. By the end of the course, students are expected to have reached the end of the module textbook, Learn to Read Latin Book and to have read verse and prose excerpts from Cicero and Catullus.
