This is the second supporting sciences modules. It covers brain, nervous system and pain as basic science elements, building on each these to understand new and important diseases like delirium, frailty and age-related organ decline. Key elements of this module will be to understand pain mechanisms, its epidemiology and its management. In additional the trainees will develop an understanding of the normal physiology and common pathologies of the liver, kidneys, endocrine system and blood. Focus on common pathophysiologies and the stress response and their context in anaesthesia and surgery.
