Description
Aim:
To provide a sound overview of suitable concepts in material chemistry, which are compatible with a high-throughputÌý approach to material synthesis and characterisation.ÌýÌý
Synopsis:
Systematic, data-driven materials engineering requires the ability to create materials and characterise these at speed. This module will cover high-throughputÌý approaches in materials chemistry, with an emphasis on combinatorial processes that can be carried out by automated batch processing and continuous-flow chemistry. Various classes of organic and inorganic materials (in solution, as functional coatings or in bulk form) will be covered to provide a broad materials portfolio. Further relevance will be given to materials characterisation, in particular to techniques that allow high-throughput synthesis and/or characterisation and, thus, the generation of large data sets.ÌýÌý
Learning Outcomes:
-
Explain and exemplify important prerequisites in material fabrication that facilitate compatibility with high-throughput approaches.ÌýÌý
-
Apply principles of high-throughput approaches to design suitable fabrication routes towards the synthesis of organic, inorganic or hybrid materials.Ìý
-
Analyse, adopt and implement suitable characterisation techniques for a given materials platform that allow screening at speed.
