The SUMMIT study, led by Prof Sam Janes, has recruited smokers and ex-smokers aged 55-78 and offered them a CT scan. This has so far allowed identification of 180 cases of lung cancer. Of these, 70% were at potentially curable stages, demonstrating the relevance of early detection programmes.

Professor Sam Janes, Head of the Lungs for Living Research Centre, explains the largest UK lung cancer screening study, which will be delivered by Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾H in collaboration with Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ and GRAIL. The SUMMIT study aims to provide lung cancer screening to a large at-risk population and to support the development of a blood test for early detection of multiple cancers.
