Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Integrated Legal Advice Clinic reopens for face to face appointments

18 August 2020

As part of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøվ’s phased return to campus, the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Integrated Legal Advice Clinic has reopened and has begun to offer face to face appointments again for the first time since March.

Like most Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ buildings, the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Integrated Legal Advice Clinic (Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ iLAC) at the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Centre for Access to Justice was closed following the introduction of lockdown measures on 23 March. Following the closure of the Clinic’s physical premises, the team moved quickly to adapt services in order to deliver advice completely remotely. Over this period, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ iLAC staff have continued to offer the full range of services including casework and representation over video, telephone and email.

Following the reopening, the Clinic team will continue to provide advice by video, telephone and email but will be offering a limited number of face to face appointments for whom telephone/email advice is not possible.

We are really pleased to be able to offer face to face appointments again. A significant proportion of our clients are digitally excluded and/or cannot process advice received over the telephone. They require advice face to face.  Being able to offer face to face appointments means that we are able to ensure access to advice for all our client base.

Rachel Knowles, Head of Legal Practice, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Centre for Access to Justice

As part of the reopening, the Clinic has implemented strict social distancing measures as well as enhanced cleaning procedures. Clients appointments will be limited to one at a time and staff will be in the Clinic on a rota basis.
