29 March 2017

Piet Eeckhout

Professor Piet Eeckhout, Vice Dean (Staffing), Professor of EU Law at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Faculty of Laws and Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ European Institute Academic Director, examined how the process of withdrawing from the EU will unfold following the triggering of Article 50 during his lecture on 28 March 2017 at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Cruciform Building.

The event was chaired by Professor Sir Francis Jacobs QC KCMG, former Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Since the Brexit referendum Article 50 has been on everyone’s lips.  Yet what does this short article actually provide for, what are the components and building blocks of the withdrawal process, and how could it unfold? This lecture, based on a paper written with Dr Eleni Frantziou (Westminster), explored what lies ahead and advocates a reading of Article 50 in line with EU constitutional law principles.
