FileStore@Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ (N: Drive) to Microsoft OneDrive Migration

25 July 2023

In our continued efforts to improve our digital services we will soon be making a Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ wide change to the way staff store their data at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ on the Filestore@Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ service.

Currently all staff are allocated:Ìý

  • Home (N: ÌýDrive) -> personal storage space for your work.Ìý
  • Group Folders Shared (S: Drive) -> Collaboration shares to use with your colleagues.Ìý

ÌýÌý
Over the next few months, we will be moving most staff to Microsoft OneDrive as their primary storage location. ÌýThe existing N: Drive service will only be available for exceptional requirements. Microsoft OneDrive will be the default location for personal home drives.Ìý
Ìý
This change does not impact or affect the Group Folders Shared (S: Drive) offering.Ìý
Ìý
Currently, you have a 100GB Home drive, also known as your ‘N:’ Drive and a separate 1TB OneDrive account within yourÌýO365 account. As part of this change, we will be migrating your personal home drive data to your existing OneDrive directory.

Why are we making this change?Ìý

  • It allows you to access your personal home drive data from anywhere, on any device
  • Eliminates the need for VPN connectivity to keep your N: Drive in-sync
  • Enables users to share files and work collaboratively more easilyÌý
  • Makes best use of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøվ’s Microsoft 365 licensing
  • It helps to simplify Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøվ’s storage service offerings
  • Enables Windows 11 upgrade on Desktop@Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ when this becomes available
  • Provides the additional capacity to enable us to increase your storage capacity from 100GB to 1TB

Ìý
When will this change happen?Ìý

We are currently planning to have migrated all staff users to OneDrive by Summer 2024. However, with more than 13,000Ìýstaff accounts to move this will be carried out in batches.Ìý
Ìý
Once we have completed the transfer of staff accounts a second phase will start the process of migrating current student accounts to OneDrive.Ìý

What happens next?

Two weeks before migration, you will receive an email confirming your migration date, information about what to do prior to the migration and where your data will be moved to. Ìý
You will then receive a reminder two days before your migration date. Ìý
Finally, you will receive an email confirming that your migration is complete, with links to our FAQ and guides to get you up and running with OneDrive. Ìý
