Research has examined this disparity and found that disadvantaged students are more likely to undermatch, enrolling in lower quality courses than expected, given their achievement,听and less likely to overmatch, enrolling in higher quality courses than expected for their achievement level. 听
In this seminar, Gill will discuss the role of school type in academic match, comparing mismatch across independent schools, state schools and FE colleges. She reviews the implications on mismatch in higher education for students from both state and private schools.
She'll also look at听whether these patterns were impacted by Covid-19 pandemic, asking whether certain school types were better able to capitalise on the replacement of exams with teacher predicted grades in 2020.
This event will be particularly useful for policy makers, teachers and researchers.

Professor Gill Wyness
