Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾

Communities of Practice (CoPs) were first launched at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ in 2017 as part of Transforming Our Professional Services. In that time, we’ve set upÌý21 CoPs across 11 practice areas, with a collective membership of around 3000 members of staff. That’s about 17% of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøվ’s total staff!Ìý

We’re now asking all members and leads of all CoPs to tell us their views on how CoPs have impact on the individual, practice areas and institutional levels.Ìý

Celebrating our success

Since 2017 CoPs have hosted around 200 Lunch and Learns and launched around 80 projects to benefit the practice area or Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾. Successfully completed projects include:Ìý

• Creating new Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ social media guidelines for staff (Digital Communications CoP)
• Supporting a new Student Triage and Referral Tool (Student Health and Wellbeing CoP)
• Transforming HR Staff Induction processes (HR Generalists CoP)
• Launching an Events Toolkit for Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ staff (Events Management CoP)

Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ is also leading the Higher Education sector in CoPs: in 2019, we were awarded the award for best organisational development and culture change initiative at theÌýUHR (Universities Human Resources) Awards for Excellence in HR. In May 2020, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ hosted a seminar with Etienne Wenger-Trayner, who coined the term ‘Communities of Practice’, and Beverly Wenger-Trayner, who shared their expertise on CoPs and how they operate in online spaces.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

Communities of Practice Impact Survey 2021

We are launching a new annual survey to get fresh insight into how Communities of Practice influence and impact working life at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾. This survey is open to all members and leads of all CoPs.Ìý

The insights we gather in this survey will help influence the direction of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s CoP strategy going forward, will help us identify their strengths and points to improve, and influence how we talk about CoPs to our internal and external audiences.Ìý

The survey will be open until Thursday 23 December 2021 and the survey results will be shared from January 2022.ÌýThe winner of the prize draw will be notified in January 2022.Ìý
