The symposium will take place at the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ School of Pharmacy on September 18th 2017, 9.30-17.30. Book your place now.

The workshop will examine the relevance of traditional herbal knowledge in the 21st century and explore future possibilities for use and research, as well as encouraging public awareness of traditional herbal medicines, based on WHO's strategic goal of "harnessing the potential contribution of traditional and complementary medicines (T&CM) to health, wellness and people- centred health care and…the safe and effective use of T&CM." It aims to have an applied focus, and to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration by drawing on approaches from both the natural and social sciences, including Pharmacy, Plant Sciences, Bioengineering, Anthropology, Ethnobotany and History. Through a variety of activities, students and researchers will have a chance to experience different perspectives and methodologies in research, and to discuss current challenges and ideas.

The day will include leading herbal medicine researchers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds speaking about their research, lunchtime 'round-table' discussion sessions, a debate on the future of herbal medicines in Europe, and practical research methodology workshops. The event is aimed at both undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as practitioners, and part of the day will include a poster session in which students can present their own research.

Abstracts for poster presentations should be submitted by 1st September 2017 to ucnvkku@ucl.ac.uk.

Advance registration is required via Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ event ticketing (£3 Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ students, £5 all others), lunch, tea & coffee are included.

There are limited places for the research methodology workshops in pharmacy and ethnobotany/anthropology: the aim is for students to attend a workshop in a discipline that is unfamiliar to them.
