On 29ÌýJune 2021, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Global Engagement, in collaboration with the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Institute of Education, hosted a seminar on India’s new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a comprehensive framework for the development of education in India.

Chaired by Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Pro-Vice-Provost (South Asia) Professor Monica Lakhanpaul, the seminar focused on higher education and brought together a select group of senior academics, policy experts and regulatory experts from India to demystify the NEP and take stock of the changing Indian higher education landscape.

Speakers from a diverse range of eminent institutions including IIT-Madras, National University of Educational Planning and Administration, Anna University, Shiv Nadar University, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, IIT-Bombay and Oxford University spoke about the practicality and implementation of the NEP from their institutional perspective.

One particular area of shared interest was creating research intensive institutions underpinned by a National Research Foundation in India.

The seminar also facilitated discussions on research within higher education institutions in India and highlighted potential collaboration opportunities for Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾, such as in bidirectional teaching, learning and research.

The implementation plan for higher education, soon to be launched by India’s Ministry of Education, will further help to identify where and how Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ can support the unfolding journey. Funds will be needed at the UK end to bid for, and secure, any bilateral activities between Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ and partnersÌýin India.
