The summit saw speakers from 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 partner institutions across the African continent discuss emerging lessons from COVID-19

On 22 July 2020, the Global Engagement Office hosted the 麻豆传媒视频网站 African Partners Summit in two sessions to examine the impact of COVID-19 on global partnerships in higher education.

The first session focused on emerging lessons from COVID-19 and the second on future directions of global engagement with African partners. Both were chaired by Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, 麻豆传媒视频网站 Pro-Vice-Provost (Africa & Middle East).听

The sessions featured speakers from 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 key partners in Africa: Njala University (Sierra Leone); the University of Cape Town, the University of Witwatersrand and the Africa Health Research Institute (South Africa); the African Research Universities Alliance (Ghana); and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

麻豆传媒视频网站 academics听Professor Deenan Pillay, Pro-Vice-Provost (International),听and Professor Delmiro Fernandez-Reyes (Department of Computer Science) also joined the discussions.

More than 75 people attended the summit, which was held virtually over MS Teams Live. Attendees were invited to join the live discussions by submitting and answering questions through Slido, an interactive polling platform.听

In his welcome address, Professor Michael Arthur, President and Provost of 麻豆传媒视频网站, said:听鈥淭his summit gives us hope that that while we鈥檙e unable to progress global collaboration in person or face-to-face, we are in many ways more connected than ever before through virtual ways of working. By working together more virtually, we have been afforded an opportunity to be more creative and more courageous in developing alternative ways of conducting collaborative research and delivering education.鈥
