I am interested in the intersection of hip-hop, gender, and urban space in Delhi. My project takes hip-hop scenes in Delhi as a starting point to consider how young people construct gendered spatialised city worlds through performance, style, and music.
This project aims to foreground the narratives of young people who occupy Delhi’s hip-hop scenes. In doing so, it is necessary to use the language of my interlocutors to frame this project – what role do ‘vibes’ play in the construction of space? How can ethnography be done in a way cognisant of feelings and affect? And how do we centre those in a study of social location?
