Major grant to advance doctoral training in transformative pharmaceutical technologies

Our Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Department, together with 鶹ýƵվ colleagues*, are celebrating receipt of a major grant to train a new generation of scientists for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

鶹ýƵվ, the and the have jointly received £6.1m from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Council in the UK and €3.0m from Science Foundation Ireland. 

The money will fund fifteen PhD studentships in the field of pharmaceutical technologies, under the umbrella of a new EPSRC Centre.

, Director of 鶹ýƵվ Eastman Dental Institute, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to provide career opportunities for aspiring scientists who may be able to create therapies to prevent or reduce the burden of disease.

“Potentially these postgraduates could transform challenging active ingredients from drug discovery and biotechnology technologies into potent medicines.”

The award was co-funded by 19 industrial partners ranging from small biotechs to global pharmaceutical businesses.  

*The 鶹ýƵվ team, who will host six of the fully-funded scholarships, includes Eastman, the School of Pharmacy, 鶹ýƵվ Chemistry, and 鶹ýƵվ Chemical Engineering. Find out more
