Dr Petra Hanga ESACT-UK Chris Hewitt Rising Star Award 2021

ESACT-UK () is a UK-based Society that promotes the communication of knowledge and experience between scientists and engineers whose work has a direct or indirect bearing on cell culture biotechnology and the products derived from it. A particular emphasis is to ensure both the inclusion and the active participation, of less experienced scientists in industry or academic institutions. With over 30 years of history, ESACT-UK has been at the forefront of championing animal cell culture for R&D, manufacturing and commercial applications.

Chris Hewitt Rising Star Award is in memory of Professor Christopher J. Hewitt FREng who was a Professor of Biological Engineering, a pioneer and advocate of cell culture and Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University. Chris sadly passed away on 25th of July 2019 at the age of 50. He was an eminent scientist and truly devoted family man and, moreover, he was invested in empowering promising early-career scientists and engineers whose work shows exceptional promise in the field of animal cell technologies.
