3D scan film shows The Bartlett's transformation

A new film by ScanLAB Projects reveals the transformation of The Bartlett鈥檚 home at 22 Gordon Street as it was refurbished between 2014 and 2017.

For a聽new film entitled 'Transformation', creative practice ScanLAB Projects has聽collaborated with composer and musician Eugene Romain to bring to life their atmospheric 3D scans. To make the film, ScanLAB captured 700 3D laser scans in the final weeks before the building was vacated in 2014, and a further 900 scans taken during the 2017 Bartlett Summer Show in its newly refabricated home.

The resulting scans were assembled and overlaid to create two digital pointcloud models, each containing over a billion precisely measured points. The dual phases of the film vividly reveal the substantial change in space and scale brought about by the refurbishment. It also captures both states of the building in use across these periods.聽

About the refurbishment project

In early 2017, we moved back into our transformed home at 22 Gordon Street (formerly Wates House) on 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 Bloomsbury Campus. The 拢30 million refurbishment and extension, carried out by architects as part of 麻豆传媒视频网站鈥檚 Bloomsbury Campus Refurbishments project, provides over 3000 square metres of additional floor space and a fresh environment for the School. The building won a prestigious 2017 RIBA London Region Award, and was shortlisted for the 2017 AJ Building of the Year award.
