Generation Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾: 200 years of student life in London

As part of a new research and engagement project, we invite you to share your memories of your time at Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ and life after graduation.

To mark the countdown to Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s bicentenary in 2026, the ‘Generation Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøվ’ project will exploreÌýtwo centuries of student life in London. From its foundation in 1826, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ has embraced a progressive and pioneering spirit; the first university in England to admit students regardless of religion, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'sÌýopening made higher education affordable and accessible to a broad section of society. The project places students and alumni at the heart of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s story. .

This is the first time Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ has undertaken a major oral history project with alumni, and we are in the process of creating a unique and significant record of student life in London. Generation Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ is directed by Professor Georgina Brewis (Professor of Social History at IOE, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s Faculty of Education and Society) and John Dubber (Students’ Union Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾). Our Research Fellow, Dr Sam Blaxland, is leading on the oral history element. The research will contribute to an open-access book with Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Press, an Octagon exhibition and a programme of impact and engagement activities to involve the whole Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ community.
