By the end of January 2016, £165 million had been raised towards the Campaign for Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾, with gifts of nearly £15.6 million being agreed since October 2015.

Proceeds from the plastic bag levy is funding Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ dementia research

A major success has been the pledging by a coalition of major UK retailers, led by Iceland, to donate the funds received from the new carrier bag levy towards the new Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Dementia Research Institute.

In February, the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Development and Alumni Relations Office undertook a wide range of activities to disseminate within Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ the campaign themes and branding, including the launch of the social media campaign #Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾heroes. This year, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) also received a philanthropicÌýgift ofÌý£60 million to realise the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children. The Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Institute of Child Health and GOSH have together been at the forefront of rare diseases research and clinical care. This new centre, due to open in London inÌý2018, will further developÌýa world-leading centre of excellence toÌýtackle some of the most challenging scientific questions, enabling our scientists and clinicians to diagnose more accurately, treat and cure children and young people with rare diseases.
