Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ STROKE RESEARCH CENTRE
Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Stroke Research Centre is an internationally recognised leader in the field of clinical stroke research. We are dedicated to doing cutting-edge research to improve the care of people with stroke. We work in close partnership with Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Comprehensive Stroke Service, which is home to an Emergency Stroke Unit, ÌýHyperacute Stroke Unit and Research Centre, and an Acute Stroke Unit. Our research strengths include:
- observational studies in stroke prevention, advanced neuroimaging, carotid artery disease, small vessel disease and intracerebral haemorrhage, and neurorehabilitation
- links between infection and inflammation and stroke, including the consequences ofÌý COVID-19, HIV, varicella and other viruses
- assessment and understanding of the cognitive and psychological consequences of stroke
- complex modelling
- randomised controlled trials in acute stroke and stroke prevention including carotid artery disease, small vessel disease and intracerebral haemorrhage, and anticoagulation
- neuroscience-based mechanistic and applied studies of neurorehabilitation in cognitive and motor domains
- innovative clinical stroke pathways for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up
- vascular neurosurgical research with a focus on intracranial and subarachnoid haemorrhage Ìý
We aim to offer the opportunity to participate in stroke research to all of the patients treated within our service by co-ordinating a portfolio of over twenty high-quality national Institute of Health Research (NIHR) clinical trials.
